How can I change my WHM root password?

To change your WHM root password, you need to log inside your Web Host Manager first. If you are not sure how to do that, please check our tutorial on How to Access the WHM Service. After you have logged in, please follow these steps:

  • Locate the search field on the left side of the screen directly below the “WHM” sign.
  • Type in “Change Root Password” and click on the first result which the WHM presents.

Access the 'Change Root Password' tool in WHM

  • You will notice two text fields. The first one will require the new root password, and the second one will request you to retype it so you confirm it. You may use the “Generate” button attached to the first text field to generate a random password, which is considered much stronger than an ordinary one.
  • After choosing your new root password, please make sure you have entered it inside both text fields and press the “Change Password” button located underneath the second text field.

In case you have forgotten your root password and you are unable to log into your WHM panel at all, please contact our Technical Support Team. They will check if the password is somewhere in our records and if that is not the case, they will have to generate a new one, which will require a server reboot, unfortunately.
