How to customize your Plesk login URL

Introduction

By default, Plesk is accessed via the standard login URL on port 8443, such as:

While this works perfectly, many administrators prefer to customize the Plesk login URL for convenience, branding, or added security. Plesk allows you to configure custom URLs, domain aliases, or reverse proxy rules so that you can access your Plesk login page through a more user-friendly address, like:

In this tutorial, we will guide you through setting up a custom login URL for your Plesk panel.

Getting Started

First and foremost, please ensure you are logged in to your Plesk control panel. To do that, please enter your IP address, hostname, or domain name inside your web browser’s search bar and add “:8443” at the end. It should look something like: “https://yourdomain.com:8443”. By doing so, you will be prompted by a login form that requests your username and password.

After logging in with your username and password, Plesk will automatically display the “Websites & Domains” page, which will serve as the index page from where you can manage everything related to your websites and domains on Plesk.

Accessing the Customize Plesk URL functionality

To customize the URL that you use to access your Plesk server, please use the left side menu and locate the “Tools & Settings” functionality. Once you do that, please click on it.

Upon doing so, you will be redirected to the “Tools & Settings” page where you have a wide variety of tools at your disposal that help you manage every aspect of your Plesk server.

The “Customize Plesk URL” functionality is located underneath the “General Settings” section. Please click on it.

Once you do the above, a side menu will pop up, which will allow you to select three methods of accessing Plesk.

Let’s go over them one by one:

  • All domains and subdomains that resolve to the server IP address but are not used for hosting - Please use the radio button to select this option and enable all domains and sub-domains that resolve to the IP address and are not used for any websites to provide access to the Plesk control panel.
  • The specified domain or subdomain that resolves to the server IP address, but is not used for hosting - Please use this option to type in a specific domain or subdomain that resolves to this IP, and is not used for hosting any other websites that you want to be the only point of access towards your Plesk control panel.
  • No custom URLs. Only https://<server-IP-or-hostname>:8443 - Please use the radio button to select this option and disable all custom URLs. You will only be able to log in to your Plesk dashboard using the server name or hostname with the port 8443 at the end.

In terms of security, we believe the second option is the most secure, as it provides only a single entry point into Plesk.

Conclusion

As you can see, customizing your Plesk login URL is simple and provides a more convenient and professional way to access your control panel. Whether you choose a redirect or a more advanced reverse proxy setup, Plesk offers the flexibility to personalize your login experience.

We hope this tutorial was helpful, and we kindly encourage you to choose a clear and secure custom URL for easy access to your Plesk panel.
