How to configure Contact Form in Joomla


Every website needs a Contact Form, whether it is an Online Store, a blog, or a portfolio. No matter what the case is, it is your job as a website owner to ensure your visitors will be able to quickly get in touch with you whenever they have questions or inquiries. Fortunately, Joomla has a built-in Contact Form, which is extremely easy to configure. Apart from the default Joomla Contact Us Form, there are various third-party extensions that could be integrated for the purpose.


Creating a New Contact

The first step of configuring the Contact Us Form is creating the actual contact, which will be displayed on it. To do that, you will need to log in to your Joomla Admin Dashboard and navigate through the top menu bar to Components > Contacts > Contacts.

Afterward, you will be redirected to the “Contacts” page under which you should click on the green “Add” button located in the upper left corner.

On the New Contact page, you will need to fill in all the contact information you desire to be displayed under the Contact Us Form. Please make sure to enter your details accurately to avoid any possible customer confusion or dissatisfaction.

Also, bear in mind that if no email address is specified, the actual “Send an Email” form will NOT be displayed on the website frontend. Instead, only your contact information will appear.

At this point, you should leave the “Category” set to “Uncategorized” unless you have previously created the category to be assigned to this contact.

Once you have entered all the necessary information, please click on the “Save” button to finalize the creation of the contact.


Configuring Contact details


Your job here is done. As you may already know - in order to display content to your Joomla website frontend, the content item needs to be assigned to a menu. Therefore, in the next step, we will show you how to link your new contact to the desired menu.

Now, let’s make the Contact Form visible to your website visitors. Please navigate through the top menu bar to Menus > Main Menu > Add New Menu Item.

On the new page, you will first need to specify the Menu “Title”, which will basically represent the Contact Us Form, therefore please make sure to enter something clear. You can leave the “Alias” field empty as Joomla will fill it for you. It will be used for the Search Engine Friendly URL of the category page. If you want to specify your custom alias, please make sure to replace all spaces with dashes (-) and all capital letters with lower case letters.

Afterward, you will need to choose the “Menu Item Type” by clicking on the “Select” button.

Once this is done, you will be provided with the available menu item types. Please click on “Contact” to display the options under it and select “Single Contact”.

When the “Single Contact” option is selected, you will be redirected back to the Menu Creation page, where you will notice that one additional “Select Contact” filed appeared. As we have previously created our contact, please click on the “Select” button. Alternatively, if you have skipped the previous step, you can create your new contact right away.

As soon as this is done, you will be presented with a new dialog listing all your current contact forms. All you need to do is select the desired one.

And now, after the contact is selected, all left to be done is to click on the “Save” button to finalize the creation of your new Contact Form.
