Rescue mode is a special recovery environment that allows you to boot your VPS into a safe, minimal system when the primary operating system becomes inaccessible or fails to start correctly. It's commonly used for troubleshooting, repairing file systems, resetting configurations, or recovering essential data after a crash or misconfiguration.
In this tutorial, we'll guide you through the process of booting your server into Rescue Mode when using your HostArmada self-managed VPS plan. This will help you diagnose and resolve critical issues even if your server's primary operating system is not functioning normally.
To boot your self-managed HostArmada VPS into rescue mode, please log in to your Client Area with us and open the management panel of your self-managed VPS plan. If you are unsure how to access the Client Area, please check our tutorial on the matter. After logging in, please access the management interface of your self-managed VPS by clicking on the service icon corresponding to your package.

Upon doing so, you will be redirected to the self-managed VPS interface, from where you can perform all sorts of management actions.
To boot the server into rescue mode, please locate the triple-dot button on the right side of the "Restart" button, located near the top right corner of your screen.

Performing this action will expand a drop-down menu with additional management options, one of which is the "Rescue mode" option. Please click on it.

Executing the above action will open a pop-up window displaying the boot options for your server.

The first option is the default one that boots your server from its main disk. However, if you're troubleshooting kernel issues or file system errors, you can boot into Rescue Mode using a dedicated ISO environment, which is the second option. Please select the "Boot from Rescue ISO" to boot the server in rescue mode.
IMPORTANT: Please note that while the server is in boot mode, you cannot change its root password. If you want to do that, please return the server to the default boot from the disk.
That's it! A straightforward procedure that you achieved within a couple of steps! We hope this was easy to follow and the process went through without any hiccups. If you encounter any issues, please contact our support team via the live chat option on our website or via the ticketing system in your Client Area.
