With a self-managed VPS, you are also granted root-level access - the highest level of administrative permission on the server. This allows you to modify any system files, install or remove software, configure services, and manage all server operations without restriction. However, it should be used with caution, as incorrect commands or changes made with root privileges can affect the entire server’s functionality.
In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process of changing the root password of your HostArmada self-managed VPS. This essential security step ensures that only authorized users can access and manage your server.
To change your HostArmada self-managed VPS’s root password, please log in to your Client Area with us and open the management panel of your self-managed VPS plan. If you are unsure how to access the Client Area, please check our tutorial on the matter. After logging in, please access the management interface of your self-managed VPS by clicking on the service icon corresponding to your package.
Upon doing so, you will be redirected to the self-managed VPS interface, from where you can perform all sorts of management actions.
Once you are redirected to the self-managed VPS interface, please focus on the middle section of the screen. There you will see the “Reset Root Password” option, which, as the label suggests, will serve as a tool to do exactly that.
Please click on that option to trigger a pop-up window, which will present you with your brand new root password.
Please click on the “Copy password to clipboard” button located on the bottom right side of the pop-up window. Please note that this process will also reboot the server, and you will need to wait a few minutes before you can connect to it again.
That’s it! This is a very straightforward process for changing the root password of your self-managed VPS plan. We hope that this was easy to follow and that the process went smoothly. If you encounter any issues, please contact our support team via the live chat option on our website or via the ticketing system in your Client Area.
