How can I create a full backup of my cPanel account?

Creating a full cPanel backup is a very straightforward process. To do so, please log into your cPanel account and then follow these easy steps:

  1. Upon logging in, please use the search field on the top right and type in "Backup". When the result presents itself below, please select it.
  2. When you are redirected to the "Backup" page, please press the blue button located on the top side of the page labeled "Download a Full Account Backup".
  3. On the next page, you will be able to generate the cPanel full account backup and choose its destination. You will also have the option of sending an email notification once it is completed.
  4. The destination option is chosen by using the dropdown menu located under the "Generate a Full Backup" label. You have the following choices:
    • Home Directory - This option will place the generated backup with the home directory of your hosting account. From there, you can download it directly to your computer.
    • Remote FTP Server - This option will cause the backup to be transferred over to a remote server upon completion. You will have to define the remote hostname, remote user, remote password, remote port, and remote directory.
    • Remote FTP Server (passive mode transfer) - This option is the same as above, however, it will use passive mode. In straightforward terms, passive mode transfer ensures that the connection would remain stable if the remote FTP server has a FireWall.
    • Secure Copy (SCP) - This option will transfer the files using SCP.
  5. After the above is selected and configured, you can use the text field located under the dropdown menu to “tell” cPanel to send an email notification once the backup has been complete and transferred(if one of the transfer methods were selected).
  6. Lastly, please press the "Generate Backup" button located underneath the notification text field. You will be redirected to the last page, receiving notification that a backup generation has started via the following output:
    Full Backup in Progress …
Per your request, no notification will be sent upon backup completion.
  7. You can press the "Go Back" button underneath the above text, which will take you back to the previous page. If you have selected the backup to be placed within your Home Directory upon completion, you are going to see the "Backups Available For Download:" sign, and beneath, you can either see a ready for download backup or a backup in progress. If the backup is available for download, it will be highlighted in blue and will be clickable. Pressing it will trigger a popup window allowing you to save the backup locally.
