Every website that you visit in your Web Browser displays different amounts of static resources such as images, videos, stylesheet rules, and so on. Upon the first visit to a website, your Web Browser will download all these static resources, display them to you in the form of a web page, and then store them securely on your local computer, in a designated by your Web Browser directory. The stored files are referred to as "Web Browser Cache". When you visit the same website again or you visit pages from the same website consisting of static resources that your browser already downloaded, those will be pulled from within the Web Browser Cache instead of being downloaded a new. This is dramatically improving the loading speed of a website.
Sometimes this cache can prove to be troublesome, especially in situations where you are making changes to your own website. A common example of this cache impacting your website negatively is when the visual styles of your website appear broken to the visitors. Note that this will not always be caused by the Web Browser Cache itself, however, checking this can be the first step you take towards investigating what might be wrong. In most cases to ensure that your Web Browser Cache is not causing style issues on your website, you will have to clear it, however, depending on the used Web Browser the procedure can vary quite a lot. Therefore, in this guide, we will familiarize you with the most widely utilized web browsers and how you can clear their caches.
