How to use the Ghost Commander Plugin in cPanel

Introduction

Ghost is a new open-source app that ranks amongst the best options for creating a professional and beautiful blog. The ease of access, fluidity, and intuitive dashboard are excellent instruments for newcomers who want to start blogging. Ghost is also perfect for seasoned bloggers that want to take on a new, refreshing challenge and take their blog development skills to the next level.

To ensure a smooth user experience, we needed to provide an easy way of getting started with Ghost as soon as possible. In this tutorial, we will explore HostArmada's very own, in-house built One-Click installer tool for the application - the Ghost Commander!

Getting Started

To access the Ghost Commander, you must first log inside your cPanel account with HostArmada. If you need help with how to do that, please check out our How to access the cPanel service tutorial. 

As soon as you log in, you will notice the Ghost Commander icon right underneath the "HostArmada Features" widget. Please click on it.

Upon clicking on it, you will be redirected to the actual tool, allowing you to start deploying new Ghost instances or managing existing ones. 

At the top, you will see a brief explanation of what the Ghost application is, followed by useful links to our Ghost Tutorials and a small run-through of our Ghost Commander.

Finally, you will reach the "+ Create New" blue button. To proceed with a Ghost instance deployment, please click on the "+ Create New" blue button.

Installing a new Ghost Blog Instance

When you click on the "+ Create New" blue button, you will see a popup screen with a drop-down menu in the middle. Please use this drop-down menu to locate your domain and select it. This domain will be where the Ghost Commander will deploy the brand-new Ghost Blog instance.

After choosing the domain where you wish to install Ghost, please click on the blue "Continue" button on the bottom right corner of the popup screen.

After clicking "Continue", the Ghost Commander will begin the installation process. You may need to wait for a few minutes for it to finish.

Once the installation is finished, you will see the Ghost application available under the "Ghost Instances" table section and any other Ghost applications you have deployed with the Ghost Commander plugin.

Managing your existing Ghost Blog Instances

Now that you have installed Ghost, you can start using it immediately by opening your browser and typing in domain/sub-domain.

Let's go over the "Ghost Instances" table section and get a better idea of what it includes and all the managing options it provides for your Glost blog.

  • Website URL - The information under this column will show you where your Ghost blog is installed.
  • Directory - This column will contain information about the directory where your Ghost blog is installed.
  • Version - This column will show the currently installed Ghost blog version
  • Port - The information under this column will show you which port your Ghost blog instances runs on.
  • Status - This column will contain information about the Ghost application's status. It could be either "Running", which means the application is currently accessible, or "Stopped", which means your application is currently stopped.
  • Actions - This column will include a few buttons, allowing you to perform various actions with your Ghost blog:
    • Start - Please use the "Start" button to start your Ghost blog instance.
    • Stop - Please use the "Stop" button to stop your Ghost blog instance.
    • Restart - Please use the "Restart" button to restart your Ghost blog instance.
    • Delete - Please use the "Delete" button to delete your Ghost blog instance.
  • Manage - Please click on the cogwheel icon to be redirected to the Ghost blog management page, where you will find two more management options. Besides these options, you will also find the ones we talked about in the previous bullet points.

  • Access Log - Please click on the "Access Log" link to be redirected to the "Awstats" tool, where you can see and analyze the traffic of your Ghost blog.
  • Error Log - Please click on the "Error Log" link to generate a content box that includes the last 100 lines from the Ghost blog error log.
  • Admin Login - Please click the "Admin Login" button to be redirected to your Ghost blog's admin page.
