How to configure Default Customer Address in X-Cart

Introduction

To be able to display the approximate shipping costs and tax fees to your customers who have not provided their address yet, you can set up Default Customer Address in your X-Cart configuration. For registered and logged-in users, X-Cart acquires the shipping address provided in their accounts and calculates the fees based on it. However, for unlogged and anonymous buyers, these costs are being calculated either based on the Default Customer Address specified by the store admin or based on the customer IP address obtained by the Geolocation Addon, until they provide their actual address.

In this guide, our focus will be on the manual Default Customer Address configuration in your X-Cart Online Store.

Accessing the Default customer address page

To begin with, please log in to your X-Cart Admin Area and navigate through the left-hand side menu bar to Store setup Cart & checkout.

Accessing the Default customer address page

When you access the "Cart & checkout" page, please make sure to switch to the last "Default customer address" tab.

Configuring Default Customer Address

As soon as you are located under the "Default customer address" tab, you are going to be presented with the fields under which you have to define the address to be used for anonymous visitors.

It is a standard address form, where you need to specify an address, country, state (if applicable), city, and zip/postal code.

Under the last "Address type" field, you need to select between a "Residential" or "Commercial" type.

Configuring Default Customer Address

When ready, please click on the "Submit" button to apply the configuration. Once done, the given zone under which the default address fits is going to be used as a base for shipping and tax rate calculations, and the costs are going to display on the cart page and at checkout before the actual address of the customer is provided.

Please bear in mind that the above screenshot examples are applicable only if anonymous visitors are allowed to place orders without being logged in to their accounts. Alternatively, they will be redirected to a login page.

In case you would like the Default Customer Address to match the actual customer address based on their IP address, you need to consider using the Geolocation addon instead. This is a default X-Cart addon available in commercial X-Cart editions.

To sum up, in this guide, you have learned how to configure a predefined address, which will be used for approximate shipping rates and tax fee calculations for anonymous users. We sincerely hope you have found the information provided in this tutorial useful and our guidance easy to follow.
