How to manage the Categories of Blog Posts in HostArmada Website Builder


Categorizing the blog posts of your website built with the HostArmada Website Builder is a way to group those in order for your readers to easily find related blog posts. In the following lines of this tutorial, we will show you how easy it is to fully manage the Categories of blog posts on your website.


Accessing the existing Blog Categories

In order to manage the Categories of Blog Posts on your website, you will first have to access the page where all of these will be listed. To do so, please hover over the "Blog" link from the left vertical menu and then click on the "Categories" link.

This action will redirect you to a brand new page where a complete list of your Blog Post Categories will be displayed in the form of a conveniently structured table view.


Adding a New Category

To add a new category, from the page where all the categories are listed, please click on the "Add New Category" link positioned right below the table containing all of the currently existing categories.

When you click on the link it will expand below and a few options will appear for you to configure. 

  • Name - Here you should type the actual name of the category.
  • Slug - Here you will need to type the URL for the category. It is recommended for the URL to be all in small letters and instead of spaces to use dashes. 
  • Parent - Here you can choose any parent category if you would like the new category to be an actual child or subcategory of an already existing one.
  • Description - In this field, you should describe what this category is all about. 

When you are done filling the required fields, please click on the "Add New Category" button displayed at the bottom of the form.

The Website Builder will then add the new category and you will be able to see it above in the list of existing categories. 


Associate Blog Post with a Category

Now that you know how to add new categories, let's review the process of adding blog posts to a category. The procedure you will need to follow is pretty simple. First, you will need to open a blog post for editing. To do that please access the list of existing blog posts and click on the small pencil-like icon in order to edit a certain blog post.

The link will then redirect you to the standard page editing interface for the chosen blog post. From the top horizontal toolbar, you will need to choose the icon for additional settings and from the drop-down list, you will need to choose the "Categories" options.


Assigning Blog Post to an existing Blog Category


Under the newly displayed dialog box, you will be able to either create a new category on the fly or choose the categories this blog post relates to from the list of categories.

Once you are done, please click on the "Save" button located at the bottom of the dialog box so the categories you have chosen can be saved. Finally please click as usual to the "Update" and "Publish" buttons located on the right side of the top horizontal toolbar so your categories can be saved and published on your website. 


Editing an Existing Blog Category

From time to time you might need to edit an existing blog category due to either an incorrect initial setup or for example if you have found a better name for the category. To do so, you will need to once again access the list of existing categories as we have described initially in this tutorial. Once you see all the categories, please click on the small pen-like icon next to the name of the concrete category you would like to edit.

This will redirect you to the "Edit Category" page where you will see all the fields that you have filled when you were adding the category initially, however this time all those will be filled with data already. Please feel free to change any of the parameters and once you are ready, please click on the "Update" button located at the bottom of the page.

The Website Builder will then save the category and display a message at the top of the page indicating the outcome of the process. 


Deleting an existing Blog Category

When you no longer need a certain category you should consider removing it from your website. Please bear in mind that the category cannot be restored once deleted.

To delete a category, you will need to once again access the list of existing categories as we have described initially in this tutorial. For each category except the Uncategorized one, you will be presented with a small trashcan-like icon that you can use to delete a category.

Clicking on that icon will prompt you with a confirmation dialog box where you will need to confirm the deletion by clicking on the "Ok" button. The Website Builder will then remove the category from your website.
